These paths, defined here as \u201cexceptions to deportation\u201d, were shaped by certain specific dynamics that characterised the vicissitudes of the Jews of the Italian Islands of the Aegean, namely emigration, transfer to Italy, death in the first half of 1944, release after arrest and finally deportation from other
